Tanning?

I woke up this morning to this enormous Mo’o cruising in my kitchen light fixture! At first I almost had a minor heart-attack, but then later realized she’s just tanning! :) In Hawaiian mythology, they represent guardians or protectors, so I’d like to believe she is a guardian of some sort. As she looks down upon me I ask her, “are you watching over me, or are you simply just getting a tan?”

Memories! January 27, 2009

Memories…

These photos bring me so much memories! This pink tahitian costume was the reason I wanted to dance! It was my very first performance and I was 5 years old! We danced at the Wednesday night show at the Merri Monarch hula festival. The photo with the pink dresses are for keiki hula. Looking at these photos make me realize how thankful I am for the halau and Uncle Johnny. I can’t believe it’s been 25 years since this first performance! I am so honored to have danced for him my whole life. It is because of these many years of being in this halau and under his direction that we were able to have dreams.
